Three Transforming Experiences - Part 6
What does it look like when we enter into the fullness of the Feast of Tabernacles and experience our own personal transfiguration? Scripture describes this for us.
Jesus made a profound prophetic declaration during the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem. This is recorded for us in John 7:37-38:
Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”—John 7:37-38 (NASB)
Jesus’ declaration gave profound meaning to the water pouring ceremony that occurred during the celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem. During this ceremony, priests would pour water from a golden vase onto the altar in the temple. That water would flow over the sides of the altar and down the steps of the temple.
Jesus’ declaration reveals that this ceremony was simply a physical representation of the spiritual reality that will come true for us as believers when we enter into our own personal Feast of Tabernacles experience. This living water and its effects are described for us in Ezekiel 47.
“Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and there was water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the front of the temple faced east; the water was flowing from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar. He brought me out by way of the north gate, and led me around on the outside to the outer gateway that faces east; and there was water, running out on the right side.
“And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand, he measured one thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the water came up to my ankles. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees. Again he measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up to my waist. Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I could not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must swim, a river that could not be crossed. He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he brought me and returned me to the bank of the river.”—Ezekiel 47:1-6 (NKJV)
This living water that Ezekiel experienced flowed out from the temple of the Lord. Now, according to the New Testament, what is the temple of the Lord? As a believer in Jesus Christ, YOU are the temple of the Lord, and more specifically, your *body *is the temple of God, as we are told in 1 Corinthians 6:19:
“Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God?” (AMPC)
So, what Ezekiel saw was a prophetic picture of the rivers of living water that Jesus spoke of, flowing out from the innermost being of the New Testament believer.
What effect do these living waters have as they flow outward from us? Ezekiel describes this.
“Then he said to me, These waters pour out toward the eastern region and go down into the Arabah (the Jordan Valley) and on into the Dead Sea. And when they shall enter into the sea [the sea of putrid waters],** the waters shall be healed and made fresh.**”— Ezekiel 47:8 (AMPC)
When these living waters flow outward to impact the spiritual Dead Sea of humanity, these waters bring healing and new life to all that they touch!
“And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.”—Ezekiel 47:9 (NKJV)
The Feast of Tabernacles is celebrated at harvest time. Ezekiel delivered this prophecy looking forward to our day when the Church will enter into the fullness of the Feast of Tabernacles experience with rivers of living waters flowing out from individual believers to bring in the final great harvest. Ezekiel describes that harvest here as multitudes of fish of all kinds being drawn into the nets by many fishers of men.
“A day will come when fishermen will line its banks—from En-gedi to En-eglaim there will be plenty of room to spread out nets. There will be all sorts of species of fish, as abundant as the fish that live in the Mediterranean Sea. There will be lots of them!”—Ezekiel 47:10 (ISV)
Jesus made his declaration about these living waters during the Feast of Tabernacles celebration in Jerusalem, and we can only experience the fullness of these living waters when we enter into the fullness of the Feast of Tabernacles experience as Jesus did in His transfiguration. Then we will be ushered into the Most Holy Place and receive the infilling of the abiding presence of God Almighty with His power and authority.
