Assassination Plots

Prophetic Significance of The Hunger Games - Part 13

After Katniss was declared the victor in the 74th annual Hunger Games, something happened that none of the other victors had experienced, at least not to the same degree. She was targeted for assassination.

In the 3rd Hunger Games film, Catching Fire, as Plutarch and President Snow sit watching Katniss on TV, Snow remarks that, “She’s become a beacon of hope for the rebellion, and she has to be eliminated.” This set the tone for the 75th annual Hunger Games event. Assassination became the overriding theme and goal of the Games—assassination of the victor, by almost any means necessary.

As President Snow observes Katniss and Peeta during the pre-Games ceremonies in Catching Fire, he says to Plutarch, “Look at them. They’re holding hands. I want them dead.” Plutarch delays Snow’s wish for Katniss’ assassination and urges Snow to “Be patient… Let’s watch her get her hands dirty first.” But there is almost obssessive determination to destroy the victors.

In like manner, almost as soon as it became apparent that Donald Trump would become the 45th President of the United States, even before Donald and Melania Trump walked hand in hand down Pennsylvania Avenue on Inauguration Day, an intense resistance movement rose up with the intent of removing him from office, by almost any means necessary.

The intensity of the resistance and the desire to remove Donald Trump from office may be unparalleled in history. Newsweek reported that a web site was soliciting donations to fund the assassination of Donald Trump.1 There had already been an attempted assassination of Mr. Trump on June 18, 2016, at a presidential campaign rally in Las Vegas.2 After his election, The New York Post reported that calls for Donald Trump to be assassinated were flooding Twitter.3

At times the resistance movement seems almost maniacal, not willing to listen to reason, proposing actions and theories that do not even make rational sense.

In Congressman Al Green’s speech before the US House of Representatives, calling for President Trump’s impeachment, he did not reference a single law that had been broken, nor did he describe any specific harm done by the President to any individuals or groups, but Green basically said that Donald Trump should be removed from office because he had taken actions that some people found offensive:

“In his argument for impeaching the president, Green read out several of Trump’s tweets, arguing that his statements on several recent national controversies had ‘incited bigotry’ against various minority groups, including African-Americans playing in the National Football League, transgender individuals serving in the military and Puerto Ricans recovering from a natural disaster. During his long-shot impeachment pitch, Green also criticized the president’s failure to condemn an August white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and called Trump out for claiming to have won the popular vote in November’s presidential election.”

“[Trump] has undermined the integrity of his office, has brought disrepute onto the presidency, has betrayed his trust as president to the manifest injury of the people of the United States of America and as a result is unfit to be president,” Green said. “He warrants impeachment, trial and removal from office.”4

But before we look too closely at the people in this Resistance movement who are calling for Donald Trump’s head, it is important for us to heed the advice that was so often given to Katniss in the Hunger Games films. We must “remember who the real enemy is.” What we are witnessing is not a wrestling against flesh and blood. This is a spiritual battle, with an intent to stop—or at least interfere with—what God has begun to do in our nation.

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”—Ephesians 6:12 (NLT)

At its heart, it is not a movement directed at Donald Trump personally. He just happens to be the person in the targeted position at this time. The battle is for the purposes of God to be fulfilled and for the national motto of “In God We Trust” to become a reality again in our nation. And as the Hunger Games films show in graphic detail, the battle could grow in violent intensity, especially in the spiritual realm.

The attack is not only against Trump. It is against the idea of the people of America regaining control of their own country. We see this symbolized in a conversation between President Snow and Plutarch:

Snow: If you cannot contain Katniss Everdeen, then I will have to terminate her.

Plutarch: I understand that.

Snow: And not just her. Her entire species has to be eliminated.

Plutarch: Her species, Sir?

Snow: The other victors. Now, because of her, they all pose a threat. Because of her, they all think they’re invincible.

And so, the 75th Hunger Games event was restructured to target the victors for assassination. As President Snow announced:

“And now, on this, the 75th anniversary of our defeat of the rebellion, we celebrate the 3rd quarter quell. As a reminder that even the strongest cannot overcome the power of the capitol, on this, the 3rd quarter quell Games, the male and female tributes are to be reaped from the existing pool of victors in each district.”

Similarly, the attempts at political assassination have not only targeted President Trump, but almost anyone associated with him: Senior Advisor to the President, Jared Kushner; National Security Advisor Michael Flynn; Chief of Staff Reince Priebus; Press Secretary Sean Spicer; Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor to the President, Steve Bannon; Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. They are all gone now. None of them are left still working in the Trump Administration.

But the resistance movement will not rest until President Trump himself has been eliminated. Will the American church rise up at this crucial time to stand in the gap and intercede on behalf of our country?

“I sought for a man among them to build the wall and stand in the breach in my presence on behalf of the land so that it won’t be destroyed, but I found no one.”—Ezekiel 22:30 (ISV)
